More and more monitors are shipping with KVM technology, which allows you to switch your monitor, mouse, and keyboard between different devices with a single switch. At CES 2024, we got a look at one of the latest to join the race: HP’s Omen Transcend 32, which offers 140W USB-C power delivery, support for Dolby Vision HDR, and a 4K panel at 240Hz, among other attractive features.
On paper, the Transcend 32 offers impressive specs and features
HP’s Omen line of gaming monitors and laptops have long been some of the most impressive on the market, and the Omen Transcend 32 looks to offer even more than past Omen monitors, at least on paper. Using LG’s newest QD-OLED tech, the 31.5-inch panel offers 4K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate, all with a 0.3-millisecond response time.
This is the first time one of the Omen displays has received Dolby Vision certification, and it brings 99 percent DCI-P3 coverage and a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification to the table. It sports a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, making it more than bright enough for gaming and watching movies in addition to browsing the web.
The monitor offers AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro, and will likely support Nvidia G-Sync, too. It features aRGB backlighting, and the OLED panel is cooled using the Omen’s “Tempest” cooling technology. It has GP’s HyperX tech built in, allowing for the Omen’s Gaming Hub to connect and allowing you customize audio EQ and other settings.
AMD support is everything
But for me, the shining light is the fact that the Omen Transcend 32 also brings KVM functionality to the table. This means you can run two devices from the same display, allowing you to easily swap between the two. This is really handy for running tests on different PCs and devices, and is increasingly becoming a must-have for higher-end monitors.
As noted above, the Omen Transcend 32 also comes with 140W power delivery, allowing you to power gaming laptops and other devices directly from the monitor. It has dual HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 2.1, two USB-C 3.2 ports with 15W of power delivery each, and two USB-A 3.2 ports on the back, providing enough hookups for whatever you want to throw at it.
Safeguarding your purchase, it also comes with a three-year warranty to protect against potential burn-in—an issue that has plagued some OLED panels in the past.
The Omen Transcend might be exciting, but it isn’t likely to be available any time soon. HP has not shared any pricing information or a release date for the monitor, so all we can do is wait and hope more details are coming soon.
